Rhode Island requires a safety and emissions inspection every 24 months for light-duty vehicles. The sticker is $55 today (rising to $75 on 2027-01-01) and is good for two years.
EVs are safety-only. New vehicles are exempt for 2 years / 24,000 miles. Vehicles 25+ years old cannot fail emissions.
If you fail, the retest within 30 days is free — only at the station that did the original test. That is why it is worth coming here in the first place.
We will tell you before we run it if something obvious will fail, so you are not surprised at the window.
